We created this Nature Calendar to inspire you and your community to create an all-year-round engagement in your local Tiny Forest. Each month features a Citizen Science or Maintenance task of the month, and seasonal ideas to take one Action for Community and one Action for Nature.

Tiny Forest Calendar: January

With winter festivities behind us, the quieter months of the year begin. This is a great time to do a little assessment of your Tiny Forest and plan your yearly engagement by reviewing our Tiny Forest calendar.

Tiny Forest Calendar: February

February tends to be a frosty month when only those who love the frisky air dare to go out. The Tiny Forest is nonetheless inviting you to check on trees and get to know them better by studying their barks and branches.

Tiny Forest Calendar: March

In olden days, March was often thought of as the long, hungry month of the year, as winter preserves were running out and the first new vegetable of the year was only starting to sprout. It can also be a hungry time for winter hibernators walking up from a months-long nap.

Tiny Forest Calendar: April

In April we start to see the growth of many trees and notice the first leaves and first signs of pink and white flowerings, especially in the Rosaceae family of crab apples, bird and wild cherries, blackthorns and hawthorn.

May is the month when we can confidently say goodbye to cold and dark winter and pleasantly indulge in nature’s activities through all of our senses: the feeling of warm sunlight, the sight of freshly green leaves, scents of blossoming flowers, sounds of chirping birds and buzzing insects.

June is the time of the year when days are the longest and nature flourishes all round us. There is plenty to do outdoors - from picnicking sleeping in tents and wild swimming to gardening and weeding.

July weather is wonderfully sunny and parks are filled with picnic blankets. July is also full of challenges especially to a young Tiny Forest and nature in urban settings. You can act by playing close attention to the changes in your Tiny Forest and organising a plastic free picnic!

The eight month of the year signals the arrival of upcoming seasonal changes in nature. Blackberries ripen, flowers fade, young animals separate from their parents, and migratory birds prepare to fly South.

September can often feel like a new beginning. We feel refreshed and revitalised after a summer of enjoying warm, long days and soaking up the sun. Your Tiny Forest is also feeling strong after a season of growth.

Tiny Forest Calendar: October

October is a spectacle for our senses! The trees in our Tiny Forests give us a dazzling display of colour. Warmer jumpers are taken out of the closets to enjoy a walk in the cool autumn air.

Tiny Forest Calendar: November

In November, many of us are starting to feel sleepy, wishing that we could stay in bed just a little bit longer. This feeling is completely normal due to limited sun exposure, so it is important to invite self-compassion and let ourselves rest.

Tiny Forest Calendar: December

In December we have no doubt winter has started. By now we are likely to have seen the first frost of the season. December is also a festive month and your Tiny Forest can also get some decorations!
